Emigration Exhibition
The Centre contains a number of exhibition rooms, each dedicated to a particular period of history. The exhibitions tell the story of the area, the history of Presbyterianism in the region, and the links that exist between east Donegal, Scotland and the wider world: this allows visitors to gain a unique insight into the contributions that people from the Laggan region of Donegal have made to industry and politics, particularly in the United States of America and Canada.
During the 17th and 18th centuries, many people emigrated from this region to ‘New World’ America; a number of United States presidents and industrialists had ancestral connections with the area, most noteworthily Presidents James Buchanan and James K. Polk.
